I write about Calle (pronounced kai-yay) clothing because of my passion for soccer, clothing and feeling at ease. For those who do not know, Calle is a clothing company founded in Provo, Utah by former members of the men's BYU soccer team. The concept of the idea comes from having a street trendy clothing line that is devoted solely to soccer. For example, a soccer player could wear an Adidas or Nike t-shirt, but others could mistake him/her for a basketball player or perhaps a football player. Calle clothing is very similar in material and design to extreme sports clothing brands (i.e. Billabong, Quicksilver, Hurly). Since these are fairly popular, many soccer followers pay money to wear the clothes but that money is now circulating in the extreme sports industry, whereas money spent on Calle clothing is circulated through the soccer market. With its funds, Calle attempts to make soccer a more affordable reality for people with lower incomes through tournaments and networking. In all reality, soccer is already a low cost sport. All that is required is a ball. The name of the company comes from the Spanish word Calle which in English is translated to "street". Founders of the company selected this as the name because of its simplicity and reflection of the beautiful game. In most countries soccer is played in the street and the skills learned in it is what makes other countries so passionate about the game and creavtive on the ball. Thus, those who wear Calle clothes not only try to look good, but also try to improve their game and give back to the soccer comunity. That is why Calle is lifestyle!
